How long a garage remodel takes
A finished garage takes two to three weeks. The floor coating needs one day to cure.
A refresh takes three to five days and a workshop garage three to five weeks. You move your things out once, into a storage pod we can arrange, and back in onto new storage.

Epoxy floor coating
A thick two-part epoxy base that fills small flaws, often topped with polyaspartic. Slower to cure, so the garage is out for a few days.
Garage cabinets

Garage remodel is the renovation of an existing garage that keeps it a garage for parking and storage while improving the floor, walls, insulation, lighting, electrical, storage and door. ProBuild Remodeling performs it as a licensed general contractor, with licensed electrical work and one supervisor for the whole job.
The service covers floor grinding, repair and coating, insulation and drywall, fire-rated walls to the house, outlets, lighting and subpanels, EV charger circuits, cabinets, wall and ceiling storage, weatherstripping and insulated doors and openers. It does not turn the garage into a bedroom, office or apartment, which are conversions with their own pages.
It is for homeowners who park or store in the garage and want it clean, organized, warmer and usable as a workshop or gym corner. It is not for owners who need another bedroom or rental unit, or for garages that are structurally failing and need to be rebuilt.

- Polyaspartic
- A fast-curing floor coating that bonds to ground concrete and resists hot tires, salt and chemicals better than epoxy kits.
- Diamond grinding
- Grinding the top of the concrete with diamond tools so a coating can grip. Acid etching is the weaker shortcut.
- Moisture test
- A reading of water vapor coming up through the slab. High readings need a special primer before any coating.
- Slatwall
- Grooved wall panels that hold hooks, baskets and shelves, so storage can be moved without drilling new holes.
- Fire-rated drywall
- Type X drywall between the garage and the house, required by code to slow a fire from reaching living space.
- R-value
- How well insulation resists heat flow. Garage walls usually get R-13 to R-15 and doors R-12 to R-18.
- Subpanel
- A second breaker panel in the garage, fed from the main panel, giving room for tools, heaters and a charger.
- Level 2 charger
- A 240-volt EV charger that adds about 20 to 30 miles of range per hour, compared with 3 to 5 from a wall outlet.

How much does a garage remodel cost?
For a two-car garage, a refresh with a coated floor, lights and storage costs about $5,000 to $12,000. A finished garage with insulation, drywall, cabinets and an insulated door runs $12,000 to $30,000, and a workshop garage with a subpanel and heating $30,000 to $65,000.
Is epoxy or polyaspartic better for a garage floor?
Polyaspartic cures in hours instead of days, stays flexible in cold and resists hot tire marks and UV yellowing better. Epoxy is thicker and fills flaws. Many of our floors use an epoxy base with a polyaspartic top coat for both benefits.
How long does a garage floor coating last?
A professionally ground and coated polyaspartic floor usually lasts 15 years or more in a normal garage. DIY epoxy kits over etched concrete often peel within one to three years, mostly because the concrete was not prepared well.
Should I insulate my garage?
Insulate if you use the garage for more than parking, if it is attached to a room above, or if you live in a cold or hot climate. Insulated walls, ceiling and door make the garage much more comfortable and cut heat loss from the house.
Do I need a permit to remodel my garage?
Floor coatings, storage and paint usually need no permit. New circuits, a subpanel, an EV charger or a mini-split do. We pull electrical and mechanical permits under our license and schedule the inspections.
Can you install an EV charger during a garage remodel?
Yes. We run a dedicated 240-volt circuit to the parking spot and install the charger you choose, or leave the outlet ready. We check your panel capacity at the visit and price an upgrade only if it is needed.
How long will I be without my garage?
About three to five days for a refresh and two to three weeks for a finished garage. The coated floor needs about a day before foot traffic and one to two days before you park on it, depending on the product.
Is a garage remodel worth it before selling?
A clean floor, painted walls, lighting and simple storage are inexpensive and make the garage look cared for in showings. We do not recommend spending on a workshop or gym build before a sale, since buyers rarely pay for it.
