Follow the room through the work
Start with preparation and removal, then follow the sequence through installation, finishes and cleanup. An item missing from that sequence deserves a question even when the total looks reasonable.
- Check the room and dimensions against your home.
- Find product names, quantities and installation descriptions.
- Mark anything described only as an allowance.
Understand three different amounts
A fixed scope price covers specified work. An allowance is a budget for an unresolved selection. A contingency is a reserve for agreed uncertainties. Ask how each amount is approved, reconciled and documented.
- Ask whether delivery and disposal are included.
- Check how unused allowances are credited.
- Keep optional upgrades outside the base comparison.
Resolve open questions before signing
Write questions next to the relevant line and request one consolidated revision. Keep the accepted estimate with drawings and selection sheets so later decisions refer to the same documents.
- Confirm who can approve changes.
- Check scheduling assumptions and material availability.
- Match deposit and milestone terms to the contract.
